Ah wings, one of my all-time favourite things to eat during the summer! There’s just something about enjoying some delicious, tasty wings with a cold drink while you sit out in the scorching sun. Thankfully, I’ve got a 7-Eleven near me, which is really convenient because I really love their super juicy and flavourful wings! 7-Eleven will be celebrating #NationalWingWeekend from Saturday, July 27 to Monday, July 29, and ahead of this deliciously mouthwatering weekend, they are asking fans to decide: What type of chicken wings are superior? Naked Pub Style Wings or Dressed Wings?

Cast your vote at https://7-eleven.ca/nationalwingweekend/ from now to Monday, July 29 because:

    • Voters will be automatically entered for a chance to win free wing delivery to the value of $25, delivered to you! Winners who don’t fall in a delivery area will receive a $25 7-Eleven gift card.
    • If you’re having trouble deciding, you can get 10 Naked Pub Style or Dressed Wings for $9 at your neighbourhood 7-Eleven or get them delivered straight to your door. Find out more about delivery at https://7-eleven.ca/delivery/

I had a chance to try a bunch of the wing flavours, from the Honey Garlic to the Buffalo Hot Wings – wow, they were all so delicious, and I especially enjoyed the crunchiness of the dressed wings.

Fun fact: Did you know that 7-Eleven Canada’s chickens are raised by Canadian Farmers without any added steroids or hormones?! They are fried fresh in select stores and hot from the oven in minutes in others.

One of the things that I also love is that you can get their wings day and night 24/7! They have so many delicious flavours to choose from, like Naked Pub Style wings, Honey Garlic, Hot Sauce or Spicy Thai.

What are you waiting for? Make sure to cast your vote and visit your neighbourhood 7-Eleven during #NationalWingWeekend for some amazing wings! Voting closes Monday, July 29th #Ad

Ohhh boy. I made such an INSANE Asian fusion dish, which I swear had angels singing (or crying tears of joy) because it was on a whole ‘nother level! My boyfriend even said it’s up there in his top five dishes of all time!

Five spice pork belly with grilled peach slaw – who would have thought that they’d be crazy good together?  I really, really loved how the warm, slightly salty flavours of the five spice Cantonese pork belly complemented the tangy but sweet Southwestern inspired slaw. The first bite is an explosion of flavour and crunch (did you see that crackling?!) that just works well and tingles your lips at the same time.

What really helped elevate this dish was using local peaches from Niagara, which were SO sweet and juicy. They didn’t have to travel that far like the peaches from the US, and are in season right now in Ontario. This was my first time grilling them and can definitely say their sweetness is brought out even more after being barbecued! It’s perfection tossed together with homegrown cherry tomatoes, shallots, parsley, red pepper and lime juice. I was trying to find a kickass recipe that involved peaches for the Loblaws Share the Food Love contest, and this did not disappoint!

Ah, pork belly, my second favourite type of meat… with ribeye being the #1. LOVED this so much. The five spice, shaoxing wine, salt, pepper and a touch of soy sauce worked really well. Not to mention it was baked at a low temp, and then put on broil for a few minutes to get that crunchy crackling. I used an interesting technique, placing sea salt on top of the skin so that the skin doesn’t cook while it bakes and allows you to finish the crackling evenly at the end.

Overall, not complicated to make, and the payoff is huge. The vibrant colors and fresh flavour of this summery dish leaves me feeling bittersweet that summer’s about to end – make this dish ASAP and serve it with salad!

I love the organic feel of the galette… Organic because you’re not restricted to a pie pan, and you literally have to mold the pie crust dough around your filling.

This was a recipe that I stumbled upon in the recipes section of the NYT. I liked the idea of baking a galette, but didn’t like that there was no sugar crumble crust of some sort (I’m a sucker for it).

And the results… I LOVED. So yummy and easy to make. This is a very good tart apple pie – the crust stays really crunchy (compared to regular apple pies). So sooo good! I used apples that I just bought from the St. Lawrence farmer’s market, super fresh!

Make this and serve it with some heavy cream or whipped cream. Delish!!!

My breakfast for today: buttermilk pancakes, meyer lemon curd, candied meyer lemon and whipped crème fraîche.

In other words, I’m still in denial about winter (hey, it’s not a cold December, right??)!

Meyer lemon always interested me, I always thought it was a fancy kind of lemon, which it kind of is – tastes like a cross between a lemon and an orange…and you also may have a bit of trouble finding it at your local grocery. But the taste, YUM!! I love lemons but these lemons I love as well, they’re a bit less sour and are smaller than regular lemons.

The highlight of this recipe was definitely the meyer lemon curd. WOW. What a delicious and creamy custard, I couldn’t stop eating it. Definitely was surprised by how good the meyer lemon tasted. YUM!!! I want to try making lemon bars with them next!!

Lawd. I made my first paleta, and it was glorious!!

Today was a super hot day… which meant a form of ice cream was in order. Guess I felt a bit adventurous today so I decided to make key lime pie paletas!

All you need are 6 ingredients, 5 of which you dump together in a bowl, then transfer to a popsicle mold.

So easy, and the flavour is delicious. A good mix of tart and sweet, held together by the creamy milk. Great finish with the graham cracker crumbs.

Ingredients

3/4 cup lime juice
2 teaspoons lime zest
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup half-and-half (or, 1/2 cup heavy cream + 1/2 cup milk)
Pinch of salt
3 cups coarsely crushed graham crackers
